Akbar Abidi

Akbar (he/them) has been working with us since March of 2024. Akbar is a queer person of color of South Asian heritage and has experienced societal challenges and marginalization due to many aspects of their identity. Akbar hopes to guide others through these same challenges. Living in Rutland since 2016, but born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Akbar says he has found a home here, a place where he belongs. Akbar has worked in mental health and addiction treatment since 2016, when he discovered he can help folx find the light at the end of the tunnel, based on personal experiences in recovery. He enjoys reading, listening to music, photography, cinema, as well as cooking for himself and friends. He prefers the winter because the snow is still a novel and magical phenomenon for them, and he spends more time outside when it’s cold.  Akbar has an amazing cat named Logan, who is a constant companion at home.

OFFICE KITTENS

Waffles and Cinnamon Toast

In June of 2024, with the help of The Feline Connection, our staff was fortunate enough to be matched with two wonderful kittens. Cinna is our chatty girl; she loves receiving attention from staff as well as looking over her brother. Waffles is our quite guy; he enjoys curling up on laps and hiding in the hardest to find places. The kittens have settled in nicely with our staff, office, and families. For their first few months with us, Cinna and Waffles went home with various staff members to help get them acclimated to different environments and social atmospheres. These days, the kittens stay at the office full time, with sleepovers arranged with staff for our various long weekends. Eventually, when they retire, the kittens will settle in with a designated staff member. In the meantime, they bring an abundant amount of joy, energy, and of course cuteness, to the office. Stay tuned to see photos of these rascals as they grow into their roles as official office cats!
